Democracy rocks!
-Ocean's catchphrase
Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg is one of the six main characters from Ride the Cyclone. She is described as "the most successful girl in town", but is mostly hated by her fellow choir members.
History
"Favorite Ride: the Bumper Cars. Ocean was born into a family of far left-of-center humanists who moved to northern Saskatchewan to live a carbon free lifestyle. The hemp needlepoint sign above the household toilet read, 'If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, scoop it out with your hand and put it in the compost'. Yet in-between all the drum circles, Marxist parables, and cheese sandwiches made from human breast milk, Ocean could never shake the feeling she was the white sheep of her family. It was only at the age of 8 when she found amongst her parents' record collection an album called 'Up with People'. The cloying positivity of this pro-capitalist gaggle of teen crooners brought tears to her eyes. Perhaps the peppiest thing Haliburton has ever produced. High school president, Straight A student. Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg: the Most Successful Girl in Town."
- Karnak's description of Ocean's past
Plot
Ocean is first shown thanking the adjudicators for allowing them to perform at the Kiwanis International Singing Competition at the Wonder Ville Traveling Fair. After she dies on the Cyclone rollercoaster and is summoned by Karnak, she interrogates him on where they are. She uses up the group's three questions, and accidentally selects "Game Mode." She then starts to speak to Karnak about why she should be voted to come back to life, and when he cuts her off, she starts singing her song, "What the World Needs". Afterwards, she is informed that the decision will be made via unanimous vote, and sings "I Love you Guys" as an apology. After being interrupted by Noel and him singing his song, she complains about the story he told having no lesson or moral. After Karnak tells her that not all stories need morals, she sings "Every Story's Got A Lesson" in protest. Afterwards, she performs an "improv" scenario with Constance, but Constance does not follow the planned script, starting the friendship troubles she and Ocean have in the show. After "The Ballad of Jane Doe", Ocean and the other choir members hold an impromptu birthday party for Jane. After they start singing the birthday song, they realize that they can't finish it because of Jane's lack of a name. Ocean tells her that the song is overrated, and works with Ricky to compose the "The New Birthday Song". Afterwards, she talks with Constance about voting. She tells her that she is going to vote for herself. After Constance is dissatisfied with this answer, Ocean says she envies her because of how content she was with her life. After this moment of vulnerability, she goes back to her self-centered ways by assuming Constance was talking about her when she agreed that the accident had affected her too, and is swiftly punched in the boob. After "Sugar Cloud", she is selected to be the single deciding vote on who lives and dies. She abandons her previous goal of winning and chooses Jane. She does this because she realized that, though she had goals, Jane never got the chance to have any. This concludes the musical, and Ocean moves on to the afterlife.
